ISRO launches 3 new online courses for free
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched three new online courses. The courses can be taken by undergraduate, post-graduate students.
ISRO is accepting applications for courses on Geographical Information System, Geocomputation, and Geoweb services.
ISRO’s unit – Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) will conduct these courses. The online courses are of 7 to 12 days duration. Participants can register for the program of their choice or all available courses.
1. Geographical Information System
This course is designed to introduce students to geographic phenomena, concepts, and examples. The curriculum includes data inputting, GIS, spatial analysis, introductory concepts and overview. The course is scheduled between September 28 to October 15, 2020.
2. Basics of Geocomputation and Geoweb Services
This is an introductory course on Geocomputation. The participating students will learn about Geocomputation technology, applications, introductory to online GIS, geo-web services, repositories, ISRO geoweb services, programming concepts for geo computation, introduction to Python and R. This is a 2-week long course that starts on October 19 and ends on October 29, 2020.
3. Remote Sensing and GIS Applications
This course teaches concepts that will be taught in the course include applications of remote sensing, GIS applications for crop resource assessment, remote sensing applications for geological studies, space-enabled products and services, and other geospatial technologies used in natural resources management, development and governance.
Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate from ISRO. The minimum criteria is 70% attendance and 40% marks in the online examination.
